WHEN ANDREW CARNEGIE established Carnegie Corp.’s mission to “promote the advancement and diffusion of knowledge and understanding,” he wasn’t talking social media. But that’s precisely what Deanna Lee, 49, wants to use to give the grant-making foundation a fresh face. Carnegie’s new chief communications and digital strategies officer expects to reimagine how audiences connect with the iconic nonprofit’s events and programs—from supporting urban education to strengthening pluralistic democracy internationally, to endorsing nuclear nonproliferation.
