his service dog Jackson with saving his life " at least once. "
Jackson helps keep him safe by detecting seizures and is also
considered the unofficial mascot of the UCAN cohort. After
several brain surgeries, Damioli understands how patients need
care. " It's a big part to overcome my condition - because most
people with this condition don't have
the opportunity to go back to work,
much less do something that's
a high acuity job like nursing. "

Mykell Fisher is going to be a
force to be reckoned with. Now
that she's graduating with a BS
in Nursing, she plans to go for
a DNP and master's degree.
Along the way, she plans to work
in a community health setting
and provide primary care for
people with different ethnic and
economic backgrounds. " I want to
serve as a force of reassurance,
empowerment, and information for
people, " Fisher says.
When Fisher was growing up, nurses
were a formidable presence in her life.
They cared for her younger sister's
chronic illness and showed her
family how to care for a person, not
the disease they face. Those nurses
set the example for excellence, and
Fisher got hooked on the career. " The
very people-centered and patientcentered
model is at the heart of
treating patients, " she says.
She chose CU Nursing because it shares
her values and priorities of promoting
diversity, equity and inclusion in its
programs. Fisher says DEI is important
because " you want your workforce
to reflect the community you serve
in as many ways possible. " So, look
for Fisher out there in the community
soon, serving and empowering others
to be their healthiest
and best selves.
