The new CDC guidelines state that when cleaning needleless intravascular catheter systems, the previous directive to “Wipe” was changed to “Scrub” to indicate that a more rigorous cleaning process is needed. The new guidelines recommend to scrub the access port with an appropriate solution (including 70% Alcohol), and accessing the port only with sterile devices.
