Each 90-minute presentation takes place in a small-venue format, and includes ample time for audience questions and participation. 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon Debate: Patients With Acquired TTP in Remission Should Be Treated to Prevent Relapse - Room B206 Some hematologists believe that the data available already justify preemptive treatment to restore ADAMTS13 activity; others believe that more clini- cal research is needed before a well-informed decision can be made. Speakers will review the evidence on both sides of the question and consider how to reach a definitive answer. Emerging Pathogens from A to Zika and Their Impact on Transfusion Safety - Room B211-B212 This session will review the evolution of responses to transfusiontransmitted infectious diseases, with a focus on the global Zika virus epidemic, and will highlight why ongoing surveillance for and rapid response to emerging infectious dis- eases is critical to maintaining global blood safety. 2:45 - 4:15 p.m. Identification and Management of Toxicities Induced by Immunotherapies - Room B206 Session presenters will discuss 1) identification grading and management of toxicities occurring in patients receiving T cells genetically modified to express CARs, and 2) immune-related side effects of checkpoint inhibitors; how management can be guided by an understanding of the mechanisms. The Impact of the Microbiome on the Hematologic System: Thrombosis and Graft-Versus-Host Disease - Room B211-B212 Alterations in the microbiome are associated with several diseases of the hematopoietic system and thrombosis. This session will focus on two recent and compelling mechanistic translational studies that investigate the role of microbial metabolites in health. * Restricted to medical and research professionals only; no businesspersons or media will be admitted.
