was my Chief of Medicine at the
Johns Hopkins Hospital - he has

had the greatest influence on me as
a mentor. Dr. Hal Weintraub was an
inimitable scientist, but if I could be
like him...
Fun facts: For those who ask,
I switched from booties to boots
around the age of three.
One thing I love about Atlanta:
Atlanta is a city born again out of
the flames of the Civil War. It is a
city that represents the resilience of
humans in their struggle for identity
and for humanity.
Nina Shah, MD
Associate Professor of Medicine,
University of California, San Francisco, CA.
Alma mater: Harvard University,

Cancer Research Center, Seattle, WA.
Mentors: Drs. E.J. Shpall, Muzaffar Qazilbash, Richard Champlin,
and Bob Orlowski. I also really look
up to Drs. Tom Martin, Sagar Lonial,
and Saad Usmani.
Fun facts: When not contemplating plasma cells, I like to exercise,
spend time with family (husband Jay,
kids Vir and Uma, au pair Silvia, and
doggie Nala), and plan get-togethers.
One thing I love about Atlanta:
It's the origin of Ludacris! Also, if
you are looking to find me in the sea
of ASH, just look for the girl with
a selfie-stick and a smile, probably
singing karaoke!

Mentor: I had the privilege of being mentored by Dr. Bart Barlogie, a
giant in myeloma biology and therapeutics. I also look up to Drs. Robert
Bona, Zihai Li, Bob Orlowski, and
Sagar Lonial.
Fun fact: I wanted to be a professional cricketer, then vocalist for an
alt rock band, and finally settled for
being a cancer researcher. I love to
travel, with family in tow.
One thing I love about Atlanta:
The food and the music scene.

Junior Authors
Binod Dhakal, MD, MS, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine, at the
Medical College of Wisconsin (Milwaukee, WI). He graduated from
Manipal College of Medical Sciences
in Nepal and went on to complete a
fellowship in hematology/oncology
at the Medical College of Wisconsin,
where he also obtained his master's
degree in clinical and translational
science. His focus is on developingnovel drug treatments for myeloma
patients by designing and conducting early phase clinical trials.
Peter Forsberg, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department
of Hematology at the University of
Colorado with a focus on multiple
myeloma and related conditions. A
native Coloradan, Peter will spend
his down time at this year's ASH
trying to avoid thinking about the
Denver Broncos current eight game
losing streak.

(VTE): 1) Optimal Management of VTE and 2) Diagnosis of VTE. Materials are
