Klondike, the largest sternwheeler to ply the Yukon River, is a Parks Canada National Historic Site. Located downtown on a bank of the Yukon River, this is one of Whitehorse’s landmark attractions. Beringia escaped glaciation and became a refuge for plants and animals like the woolly mammoth, scimitar cat and giant beaver. The centre has a full-size cast of the largest woolly mammoth ever recovered and a reconstruction of the 24,000-year-old Bluefish Cave archaeological site.
