TEAM OMA MAINTAINS
HOPE AMIDST CHANGE THROUGH
FREQUENT ENCOURAGEMENTS

W

hile living in these unprecedented
times, the challenges we face on top
of the uncertainty around us can feel overwhelming. Discouragement and despair lurk
just around the corner it seems. We have
learned in Team OMA to stay in touch with
each other, to learn from the wisdom and
experience of others, to take time for gratitude and to experience the joy that is there
for us if we stop and look and listen for a
moment.
We have seen the benefit of encouraging
each other. OMA's staff frequently confer
with one another throughout our workday.
We also send out daily encouragements to
all staff. Various themes emerged for each
day, with quotes or video clips to inspire us,
very often with music to uplift us or at least
get our feet to move!
"Motivational Mondays" used inspiring
quotes from writers such as Maya Angelou
and President Obama or movie clips like

"Remember the Titans". "Thoughtful
Tuesdays" have included an interview with
Grit author Dr. Angela Duckworth, purposeful comedian Michael Jr., and TED talks
on purpose from Simon Sinek. "Wacky
Wednesdays" bring a break mid-week
with clips to help us laugh. "Throwback
Thursdays" take us back, sometimes way
back, to classics from the likes of Stevie
Wonder, Diana Ross, The Staple Singers,
Marvin Gaye, and The Rascals. Friday's mix
of old and new has included songs from U2,
Miriam Makeba, and Hawaiian song master
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. When baseball
started up, we took a look at the "Who's on
First" routine which never gets old.
In August we are enjoying a solid month
of music, with uplifting and/or summer
fun favorites all recommended by OMA
staff. We have enjoyed hearing from
Aretha Franklin, Pharrell Williams, Nas, Wes
Montgomery, Al Jarreau, and John Klemmer
among others.
We also take time to reflect on the significance of Black Lives Matter as a message
