THROUGH THE STORM

ack in February, in the initial stages of the pandemic, all
staff in the OMA Financial Operations - AP/Accounting
Unit commuted to work daily and had not seriously considered teleworking on a long-term basis. In March, we made
plans to telework two-or-three-days-a-week. However, within
the first week of the plan, the directive came to have all
employees work from home.
As the stay-at-home orders were extended, we understood
that telework would become the new normal and that we were
in it for the long haul. To make working from home easier
and more comfortable, some staff went back to pick up items
from the office, while others spent their own money to purchase additional office equipment and supplies, e.g., monitors.
Because of the obvious benefit and savings derived from not
having to commute to and from work and home, paying for
parking and buying food, some staff immediately embraced
working from home. For those who counted on office interactions working from home has some adjustment.
Now that we have been working from home since March,
the AP/Accounting unit has been having twice weekly staff
