OUR NEW NORMAL
VPN and Laptop issues including VPN
login, Microsoft Teams and other software
problems, that the staff was experiencing while working remotely. Since March
30, the entire OCIO team has also been
working remotely except a few of the IT
Helpdesk team members who report to
the office once-a-week for those issues
that cannot be solved remotely.
Since March 30, our highest priority
has been to better protect the OCFO's
data and documents. The first step in
that journey was the implementation
of Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) for
Microsoft Office products and portal a
few weeks back. Even if a hacker steals
the password, he/she won't be able to
access emails and documents since he/
she has to enter the MFA code to login.
Since we are working remotely and we
do not have the same level of security
as in the office network, we are piloting
a few hardware and software products
to improve the overall security and plan
to implement these products across the
OCFO's IT infrastructure in the future. *

hen faced with a public health crisis,
the "likes" of which we have never
seen, how does one prepare? When, in
response to such an unprecedented crisis, a
multi-functional team of over 90 individuals
must suddenly begin working from home,
how does that team adjust? With so many
uncertainties and ever-changing factors surrounding the COVID-19 crisis, acting quickly
but in a responsible manner has not been
easy.
Nevertheless, when first faced with
this emergency, the Office of Financial
Operations and Systems (OFOS) moved
swiftly into action, working closely with
partners across the OCFO to ensure compliance with the OCFO's overall response
plan. Our primary goal was to ensure that
staff had the resources needed to successfully work from home and the capability to
communicate efficiently with customers and
