GOVERNMENT SERVICES
HOW WE ARE SUCCEEDING
EMBRACING TRUST IN OTHERS

I
n the Government Services Cluster, when
we look at the impact of COVID on the
operations of the cluster, the one word that
can describe the current situation is "Trust".
We all have to not just trust that people
are doing their jobs, we must trust that we
are all taking care of each other by taking
the proper precautions not to contract or
pass on to others the COVID virus. We continuously remind staff to remain vigilant to
reduce their risk of contracting the virus. In
addition, we have been working to provide
some distractions from the stress inherent in
working in this crisis environment.
We have conducted some events: Zoom
Happy Hour, Zoom All Staff Meetings,
Individual meetings with staff and we are

shifting to Teams.
Ms. Lisa Smith has been instrumental
in planning the staff meetings and other
events, and works to keep staff informed
about important issues. She also keeps me
informed about the "feel" of our staff.
The transition to remote working has been
a curious process. I did not initially feel that
staff would think this was a good idea, but the
reality turned out to be contrary to my initial
impression. The good that has come out of
this work arrangement has for me and other
resulted in a dissipation of the level of stress:
* No driving an hour to and from work
* No having to worry about picking up
kids quickly from school
