OFFICE OF MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION (OMA)

Ensuring That the Numbers are Right
Daniel Powell, Accounting Technician,
OMA - Financial Operations Unit

I

am new to the Office of the Chief Financial Officer,
having just started with the Office of Management and
Administration (OMA), Financial Operations, in March 2017.
My primary responsibility is to pay invoices on time and
confirm that those payments adhere to the Quick Payment
Act. In addition, it is my responsibility to provide accurate
accounting and financial support services to departments
within OCFO. I also process employee reimbursements for
out-of-town travel, and conduct petty cash audits to ensure
adherence to the petty cash policies and procedures. I provide technical support for payments and account information to
vendors and end users. Lastly, I assist accounting and/or financial management personnel by providing financial reports and reconciliations for complex accounts.
I support the Office of Integrity and Oversight (OIO), Chief Information
Officer (OCIO), Economic Development and Finance (EDF), Revenue
Analysis (ORA), Budget and Planning (OBP), Tax and Revenue (OTR),
Financial Operations and Systems (OFOS), and the Executive Office.
I work closely with the with the Office of Contracts to ensure that
purchase orders are appropriately set up to allow spending; with the
budget team to verify funding availability; and with Logistics to coordinate the delivery of checks.
By communicating with individuals throughout the OCFO I am
afforded the opportunity to witness how group synergy is channeled
into great customer service.
