Getting the Training Right
By Ayana Woodson, Training Subject Matter Expert

A

s the Organizational Change
Management (OCM) Training Subject
Matter Expert (SME) for the District
Integrated Financial System (DIFS) program, my responsibility is to ensure that
the District's training needs are understood
and met, before rolling out the new system.
Prior to taking on this role, I served as the
Functional System Advisor for SOAR and
CFO$olve. In that position, I was responsible for testing, administering new hire
and refresher trainings, and troubleshooting issues with SOAR and CFO$olve
applications.
The difference between my previous role
and where I am now is that I'm starting at
the beginning of a technological implementation process-whereas previously, I
inherited a legacy system (SOAR) upon joining OCFO. I am so excited for the opportunity to participate in the training strategy,
include lessons learned from SOAR's training limitations, and to develop a more comprehensive training approach for the new
system.
Since joining the team, I've had to make
considerable adjustments to ensure that I
meet the objectives and requirements of
the program. My biggest adjustment to
date has been a shift from being extremely
reliant on my technical skills to placing an

increased emphasis on the equally important skills of fostering team collaboration and
communication. This adjustment has been
both challenging and interesting because
I work with a dynamic group of people
from various backgrounds and levels of
expertise.
This assignment reinforces the
importance of the voice of the stakeholder. To ensure that we are effectively capturing and reflecting their
requirements and feedback, my team
and I capture their input in surveys, workshops, and communication with the points
of contact (PoC) and cluster SMEs. Once
received, we use this information to inform
and continuously improve our strategy and
develop a path forward for training and educating end users.
