BEHIND CLOSED DOORS
E
VEN SOMETHING AS simple as a door can be reimagined as a work of art to elevate the design of a space to a
higher level. Case in point, the CasaZen collection from
Italian door manufacturer Bertolotto Porte SpA.
To create these pieces, sand is colored and then handcarved by artist Elio Garis. Inspired by the great deserts of the
world, Garis hand carves and shapes the sand, as the wind does in
the desert, resulting in various textural surfaces and landscapes for
a unique end-product.
Garis poetically describes the CasaZen doors as "pleasant."
"What is perceived as delicate, induces everybody to become
thoughtful: sweetness can change the world."
