With an educational background that spans psychology, marketing,
advertising and cultural anthropology, Marrero brings a unique
viewpoint to her role at Gensler, where she has worked for nearly
15 years in three different offices. Now in London, she is a firmwide leader, where she informs the design process through strategy,
research, trend analysis and her knowledge of consumer needs.
Marrero takes a leading role in mentoring within Gensler,
promoting young women within the profession. She also helped
form the Gensler Insights Group. Recent projects include C&A's
new store concept and Topgolf.
The best advice I ever received: Let them stare.
What I love most about my job: Developing the next generation of
retail talent (aka future "40 Under 40" recipients).

JEANY KIM

ANDREW LEE

Age 34
With an interior design degree in
hand nearly 12 years ago, Kim
joined the Seattle office of
Baltimore-based CallisonRTKL,
and never looked back. Her
domestic and international projects
with the company have run the
gamut from apparel and luxury
jewelry to toy stores and retail
banking. Around the office, she is
known as a tireless researcher of
trends, style inspirations and
fashion attitudes in traditional and
global markets. One colleague
referred to her as a "global design
diplomat" for her ability to
approach international retail
projects with sensitivity for the
cultures involved, specifically with
Dhamani 1969 in the Dubai Mall.
Kim also helps coordinate her
office's "Adopt-a-Family" program
with Seattle Cancer Care Alliance/
Seattle Children's Hospital during
the holiday season.
My first job: Summer kids camp

Age 30

Since joining New York's MNA more than five years ago, Lee has worked exclusively
in retail design and architecture, but he also has experience with commercial,
institutional and residential work in the United States, Central America, the Middle
East and Australia. In addition, Lee is an active member of the Retail Design Institute's
New York chapter and the AIANY Interiors Committee, where
he leads numerous events and reaches out to young retail
designers. Some recent projects include
Club Monaco, Patagonia, Lucky Brand
and Everything But Water.
My favorite movie: "Gattaca." It is 20
years old, but still futuristic.
My next project: A Club Monaco store in
Seattle that is now under construction.

MARTHA MACINNIS
Design Director
TD Bank Group
Age 31

MacInnis draws on her background in interior design to explore design and brand standards for the progressive retail
that defines TD Bank. In eight years with the bank, she has become a pioneer in human wellness and productivity as
it relates to environment. She delivered some of the first WELL-certified workplaces and retail projects in North
America, benefitting employees and customers alike. Her team's pilot design work focuses on a qualitative brand
experience and uses elements like flexible furniture components that are helping TD Bank branches evolve from
traditional transactional hubs to more consultative sales environments.
The best advice I ever received: Make every breath count.
Latest obsession: Distance running.
My guilty pleasure comfort food: Pizza Hut.

JESSICA KING

Senior Designer/Project Architect
Bright Architecture
Age 34
For more than three years, King has worked at New York's Bright
Architecture to direct the design of the firm's retail and fitness
partnerships. Most recently, King has focused on luxury retail,
particularly boutique fitness. She is uniquely qualified for her post not
only because of her master's in architecture from Pratt Institute, but
also because of her personal dedication outside of class as a CrossFit
instructor four mornings per week. Past work includes notable
boutique fitness names like Flywheel, Fitting Room and Rumble.
My happy place: In a Tennessee backyard playing with my nieces
and nephews.
I'm inspired by: Off-line conversations. Talking dreams and life over a
coffee and a donut just doesn't translate through email or Instagram.
My favorite movie: "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial."

JASON MARCOULIER
Manager, Store Design
Ahold USA
Age 34

Marcoulier manages store design for Ahold,
the supermarket parent company of Stop &
Shop, Giant Food Stores and others. For six
years, Marcoulier has focused on redefining
and innovating the standard grocery store to
being a true food retailer for the masses,
making fresh food shopping an enjoyable,
immersive experience. Recent projects include
Ahold's produce department reinvention and a "total store" design reinvention.
Outside of the office, Marcoulier volunteers with Boston's Museum of Fine Arts.
My favorite book: "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway.
Pet peeve: Too many emails. Let's just talk!
I'm inspired by: Experiencing retail environments in other countries.
