JALAL HAMAD
Senior Director, In-Store Experience -
Visual & Off-Shelf Merchandising
The Home Depot

MY FIRST JOB WAS:
PACKAGING PISTACHIOS AT A ROASTERY.

AGE 38

Hamad is proudly #orangeblooded
and his list of accomplishments with
The Home Depot (in Canada and the United States) over the last 18 years
have his colleagues proclaiming him a truly remarkable contributor to the retail design industry.
He is recognized for his ability to balance creative thinking with business strategy to drive forward
the strategic business objective of the $108-billion, Fortune 20 retailer. He assembles teams of
world-class talent and pushes the envelope with technology to keep The Home Depot on the cutting
edge. He introduced the use of camera analytics, customer intercepts, associate interviews and heat maps to provide scientific data points that drive more
impactful creative solutions. Hamad is recognized for personally leading and navigating The Home Depot to some of the most innovative retail experiences in
its 40-year history. He provided direct leadership for the design and implementation of The Home Depot's "pilot store" initiative, which included a successful
wayfinding package that has since been rolled out in 1,400-plus stores across the country. He continues to explore the use of technology such as Internet
of Things (IoT), alternative/virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and others for the benefit of the in-store experience. Additionally, Hamad leads the annual
Home Depot Product Walk that takes over Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, and he supports the next generation of designers through involvement in PAVE.
Guilty pleasure: Rice Krispie Treats.
I'm inspired by: My wife and four children for their unwavering support.

LARA HENDLIN

LINDSAY HENNINGFELD

Director Guest Experience
Target Corp.

Retail Design Manager
SunTrust

AGE 34

AGE 34

Hendlin is a driven leader, strategic
thinker and skilled collaborator
who has a passion for conceptual
design, innovation and execution to
drive growth. She has been a positive force on the Target team since
2006 and has a proven track record
of leading complex strategic
design initiatives from concept
to execution. In her current role, Hendlin directs a diverse set
of designers focused on guest experience design. She leads by
example and has a reputation as an empathetic, empowering, trusting and collaborative leader who brings out the
best in people. Working on some of the most transformative
consumer experiences to date, she and her team play a pivotal
role in interpreting design concepts across the Target fleet and
implementing an aggressive yearly remodel program. Hendlin
has been instrumental in the development of Target's Next
Generation Prototype, various food and beverage initiatives, and
Target's extensive remodel program. She is constantly curious
in her approach to design, to seek information and to find connections between the subjective and the concrete. She believes
retail design requires the perfect mix of art and science, and she
will continue to lead her team to push the bounds of the guest
experience.
I'm inspired by: My grandmother, the strongest woman I know.
Currently binge-watching: "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel."
My happy place: On my yoga mat.

THOMAS OLIN KOSBAU
Founder, Principal Architect
ORE Design + Technology

Henningfeld is a proven influencer
of the customer experience. From
Best Buy and Cricket Wireless to
SunTrust, she has been integral
in producing unique and distinct
designs that sell products and
elevate brands. At Best Buy, she led
the visual merchandising of the
Microsoft store-in-store concept, as well as the health
and fitness shop at corporate headquarters. She also
developed a new visual communications and display
strategy that led to increased savings as well as increased
sales opportunities. With Cricket Wireless, she developed
and managed a complex store design for more than
1,000 locations. As retail design manager for Suntrust,
she works with the team to maintain design standards
that meet the logistical needs of the bank. In addition
to her daily work accomplishments, Henningfeld has
been actively involved in the Atlanta chapter of the Retail
Design Institute for the last three years. She currently
serves as chapter president. Thanks to her energetic and
enthusiastic efforts, she has spearheaded events bringing
together retailers, designers and the public to celebrate
retail design in the southeast.
Guilty pleasure: Super stinky cheeses.
My next project is: Creating coffee-table books of my travels.
The best advice I ever received: Trust your intuition.

LATEST OBSESSION:
MY NEWBORN DAUGHTER.

AGE 39

As the founder of ORE Design + Technology, Kosbau is using his firm and his talents to reactivate underused and stalled sites through adaptive re-use and sensitive, impactful, sustainable
and cost-effective retail design. He pushes and merges the boundaries of landscape and
architecture to help revitalize communities and neighborhoods while providing incubators
for local artists and retailers. The commission of DeKalb Market in downtown Brooklyn, N.Y.,
is a perfect example. For this project, ORE transformed 86 salvaged shipping containers into an incubator for start-ups, including a
community kitchen, event space, community farm, 14 restaurants and 82 retail spaces. His concept, NYCDOT's El-box, is a low-cost
prototype for retail below New York's underpasses. There are plans to produce 2,800 around the city to activate underpasses with
accessible retail spaces for local entrepreneurs who cannot afford brick-and-mortar storefronts. Through ORE, Kosbau is creating
innovative architectural and technological systems that push the boundaries of today's urban typology. He strives to uncover,
develop and refine unrealized creative potentials embedded in scientific research, technological innovation and the natural world.
Kosbau is innovating, creating and collaborating to make a difference, not only in retail, but how each space he touches positively
impacts people and the planet.
Most amazing place I've traveled: Either the Necropolis of Rabat or the landscapes of Iceland.
Biggest fear: Climate change.

CHRISTINA LIZZETTE HERNANDEZ
Manager, Architecture, Design & Development
Taco Bell Corporate
AGE 38

Hernandez is creating her retail legacy
at Taco Bell. Her design leadership has
led to establishing a diverse yet cohesive
global portfolio of contemporary Taco
Bell restaurants, taking the brand from
"standard drive-thru" fare to a place to
sit and stay a while. From local graffiti
to in-store DJ booths on top of shipping
containers, she creates spaces that exude
the brand DNA while connecting with
the local culture-designs that fill crew
members with pride and give Taco Bell
fans a place to be and be seen. Outrageous,
incredible and innovative are just a few of
the words colleagues use to describe her
inspired, out-of-the-box creativity. She is
recognized as a selfless leader with a business mind to support her unique eye for
design. Hernandez has helped expand the
Taco Bell chain into new countries, localizing expressions of the brand in Europe,
Asia, India, Latin America and Australia.
Domestically, she has played a significant
role in integrating the Urban Inline and
Cantina models. The Las Vegas Cantina
flagship features innovations such as an
open kitchen and in-store technology. In
true Vegas style, it also includes alcohol, a
wedding venue and featured VIP and DJ
sections. Hernandez is a highly talented,
enthusiastic and creative architectural
designer who has taken restaurant retail
design to a new level.
My first job was: Party planner/Zamboni
driver extraordinaire at my hometown
ice skating rink.
My happy place: At the golf course...or
at Sephora.
My next project is: Launching a new
Taco Bell restaurant for an emerging
international market...check back in to
see which one *wink*.
