ETAILX IS A new show that
combines GlobalShop, the world's
largest annual event for shopperfacing retail design, technology
and in-store marketing, with the
Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition
(IRCE), the world's largest e-commerce event,
and RFID Journal LIVE! Retail, the world's
only RFID event dedicated specifically to retail
application. RetailX will premier June 25-27, at
McCormick Place in Chicago.

The co-located show will offer more than
400,000 sq. ft. of space for exhibitors, as well as a
variety of exciting and educational speaker presentations. Based on recent trends from the three shows,
RetailX is expected to attract and inspire more than
20,000 attendees and more than 1,200 exhibiting
brands. Educational tracks will provide a broader scope with intent to give attendees a significant
competitive edge in the rapidly evolving retail world.

How does it feel?
EGARDLESS OF WHAT kind of retailer you are or how you're connected to the
retail design market, it's likely that you're feeling the ripple effects of disruption. Yes,
we are in the midst of the biggest transformation in retail history, but in daily life, we
are primarily in a reactive state. Reaction, first and foremost, to e-commerce and the
ripple effects it has on the physical store function. Yes, e-commerce is only 10 percent of
shopper spending (the average citizen thinks it's 50 percent) but 10 percent of a $5 trillion
industry is still a big number. What we are really reacting to changing shopper habits,
expectations and experience requirements. Trying to improve stickiness while finding
ways to remove pain points from the shopping journey.
The speed with which deep trends establish is accelerating. BOPIS and curbside are still in their infancy and yet already 30 percent of retailers offer it, which
resulted in an almost 60 percent increase in shopper trips, year over year in
the fourth quarter of 2018. With some arguable exceptions, cashier-free
checkout didn't exist outside of Seattle until seven months ago, and yet,
shopper attitudes about that feature indicate widespread acceptance and
expectation. Most shoppers don't know what artificial intelligence
(AI) brings to the shopping experience and most associates are not
yet working with real-time in-store analytics, as only 19 percent
of physical stores have executed on AI technology.
Three-year planning roadmaps are written in pencil, rhetorically
speaking; things change too fast for ink. The landscape changes too
quickly, and pivots unexpectedly. What results from disruption is a natural
uneasiness, a sense of chaos and disarray. What can RetailX do about it? First
of all, it is a place where you can see that you have a lot of company-other retailers and, yes, e-commerce companies that are facing the exact same challenges.
And, secondly, a place where you can find answers from hundreds of companies that
are solution providers focused on retail's transformative future. RetailX is a place you
can come wondering, and leave confident you know where you're headed.
