BEFORE PHOTO (AFTER): NATHAN COX PHOTOGRAPHY with complementary chandeliers that bring attention up to the second story and balcony dining area. Working within the existing space, the renovated café features a variety of seating options (including outdoor dining) as well as scatter-style food stations. Jury comments: * Great use of natural light and creating a space that promotes socialization as well as function. * Excellent changes to increase movement through the area and in identifying multiple dining choices, for residents. Another great example of how to take advantage of an existing underutilized high volume space and provide ample natural light and visual interest. * The renovated space speaks to the aspirations of an independent living community, where residents find opportunities to engage and interact. The space is dynamic and engaging yet warm and familiar. * The design elements have captured the idea of PHOTO (AFTER): NATHAN COX PHOTOGRAPHY inclusiveness and not just design for a particular age group. It feels and looks like it could belong in a hotel or college, not in a retirement home. * I liked the "Farmer's Market" feel. Rustic-natural looking materials/ tile are nice. Connection between indoors/outdoors and lots of natural light. BEFORE Environments for Aging * special supplement 55
