Solana Deer Park is located in the northwest
suburb of Chicago and is part of a new walkable
urban development that includes a residential community, shopping center, and business district.
The senior homes are portrayed with a prairieinspired architectural style to offer respite from the
busier parts of the neighborhood. Architectural
treatments offer a welcome gesture and facilitate
wayfinding by providing a porte cochere as a central
focal point at the entrance. To provide a verdant
environment, half of the required parking spaces are
housed in a garage, which was designed at the base of
the independent living portion of the building. Its roof
provides a green patio space for the resident units on
the respective floor.
The hospitality lounge of the independent living
portion of the community is located at the entrance of
the building and offers an active and welcoming environment. From the lounge, one can access the assisted
living portion of the building as well as the common
areas, which are located adjacently and vertically.
These spaces take advantage of the surrounding views,
with ample windows, balconies, and patios spaces.
Centrally located, the common areas provide a space
where residents from assisted living and independent
living can interact and socialize. The common areas
are distributed on three floors to encourage activity in
many spaces within the building.
The memory care portion occupies the first floor
of the assisted living building. Designed as a building
within a building, spaces accommodate daily activities
and open to a secured and readily accessible garden.
