Study ranks states by
affordability of aging

FIRST LOOK

Revel Issaquah

Revel Issaquah is a five-story independent living community under
construction on a 4-acre site in Issaquah, Wash. The community will
comprise 146 studio and one- and two-bedroom apartments and a
variety of amenities. Designed by VIA Architecture (Seattle), Revel Issaquah's defining features will include a theater, indoor heated saltwater
pool, raised gardens, fitness center, full-service salon and spa, and dining options designed by chef and Food Network star Beau MacMillan.
The community will also house a full-service pub and both casual and
private dining rooms, with the pub and dining room offering views of
Lake Sammamish. Additional outdoor recreation areas include resident
gardens, walking paths, and space for interacting with pets. The community is expected to open in December.

As more seniors live longer-and more adult children are
faced with assuming some of the costs of their parents'
care-the finances of senior living become increasingly important. Care.com (San Mateo, Calif.), an online
resource for senior living information for caregivers and
spouses, conducted a study on the affordability of aging
in all 50 states. Eleven different socioeconomic factors
were evaluated, including the cost of living index, availability of senior
healthcare
programs, and
average costs
of senior care.
States
found most
affordable for
adults 65 and
older included
Mississippi,

going to be expensive but also brimming with care options.
