CINCY’S METROPOLE HOTEL GETS MAKEOVER BY 21C
The former Metropole Hotel in downtown Cincinnati has been reborn
as the 156-key 21c Museum Hotel.
The Louisville, Ky.-based company’s
second property is housed in the

100-year-old former Metropole Hotel
that has been renovated to house a
contemporary art museum, boutique
hotel and the Metropole restaurant.
“The moments of discovery are

truly exciting about this building, and
this project,” says Deborah Berke, the
hotel’s designer. “It’s like a scavenger
hunt from top to bottom. You will
find something of interest throughout

the building, and that’s what
makes it a great architectural
experience.”
The design integrates
many of the building’s original
features, including the exterior terra cotta tile, a sweeping
staircase and original mosaic
tile floors in the restaurant
and elevator lobby. The hotel
recently unveiled its threeroom 21c Spa, and will open
the Rooftop Bar next spring.
21c will open its third hotel
in Bentonville, Ark., in the first
quarter of 2013; and additional
hotels are slated for Lexington,
Ky. and Durham, N.C. The
brand’s first locale opened in
2006 in Louisville. –Megan Krause
