Commune Hotels & Resorts, the business
born out of the merger of Joie de Vivre
Hospitality and Thompson Hotels, has
nabbed Leondakis to oversee its planned
growth into gateway cities around the
globe. Leondakis, previously president
and chief operating officer at Kimpton
Hotels & Restaurant Group, is now ceo of
Commune, whose holdings include 33 Joie
de Vivre hotels and 12 Thompson Hotels.
“Niki’s work at Kimpton exhibited her
passion and balanced approach to leadership,” said John Pritzker, Commune’s
co-chairman. “Having Niki partner with
us at this time gives her a unique opportunity to impact all aspects of the company
during a period of rapid expansion.”
Since its formation in 2011, Commune
has announced its acquisition of and/
or management of the following locales:
the 5 Beekman hotel in New York; the
Chicago Athletic Association building,
which it plans to convert into a hotel; the
Thompson Chicago (formerly the Sutton
Place Hotel); the Thompson Ocean Drive
(formerly the Hotel Victor) in Miami’s
South Beach; and the Epiphany Hotel in
Palo Alto, Calif. Commune officials say
Leondakis will lead the company’s expansion in those cities, along with such
markets as London, Seattle, Cabo San
Lucas and Hawaii.
“The potential Commune represents
as a global, multi-brand lifestyle hotel
platform will keep me engaged and excited
for years,” says Leondakis.
