to carve out a dark, cozy escape," says Iyer. "We found the solutions with our
partners. The vendors were equally excited about the creative process." That
teamwork sparked ideas for the etched, back-lit mirrored bar front, the hanging
orchid light pendants, the stylized grand oak canopy with tendrils of Spanish
moss and the glowing artwork that shifts with movement. Even the lighting riffs
on the theme, as it evokes the glow of fireflies on forest ferns to illuminate this
erstwhile tea party.
The magic touches: Functionality can be beautiful. "It certainly was a first
for our team to hang a canopy of greenery from the ceiling," says Richardson.
"However, the space still had to be as functional as any lounge." Furnishings with
an organic edge frame the collaborative and relaxation spaces, while providing a
backdrop for what Richardson calls "moments of awe."

The backstory: The team concept for Ooh-La-La! began with the
fascination in capturing the persona of Paris. It's that effortless chic that can
only be conceived with what is so often associated with all things Parisian-
the sensual, elegant, and the liberating. Taking inspiration from the cuttingedge fashion and famous Parisian landmarks, "We wanted to conceive a design
that is as classic and timeless as the French style but with a contemporary and
unique vibe," says Berestova.
The teaching moments: Beginning the design with a strong conceptual
element-the focal point, the angular bar-provided the biggest challenge in
creating a central area that was both functional and fluid. "Our 'aha' moment

was reinventing the levels in the bar so it could provide accessible storage and
variations in seating and standing areas, so we could keep it in a central location,"
says Berestova.
The magic touches: Subtle nods to French culture that go beyond
landmarks-think, accordion style tables inspired by the renowned Parisian
instrument and unexpected details like the spike and chain lamps and a winged
chandelier. "I love the pattern in the carpet, which is reminiscent of smoke
patterns from the streets of Paris," says Berestova.
