OK? And, what better place to write the latest entry in his bio
than The Times Square EDITION, situated behind the biggest
LED billboard in the city at 47th St. and 7th Avenue? Channeling the design wisdom of the late Andrée Putman (the
iconic interior designer behind the look of Schrager's revolutionary early Morgans Hotel Group properties), the upcoming
second New York outpost for Schrager's and Marriott Intl.'s
flag EDITION seeks to pay homage to the Morgans vibe in a
modern way.
Putman's palette of neutrals, especially black, white and
gray, will remain the backbone of the design, says Glenn
Pushelberg, founding partner, Yabu Pushelberg. That's
reflected in the high contrast schemes for the lobby and the
cabaret theater/performance venue. Adding greenery brings
both a 21st-century twist and much-needed calm in the

middle of the exuberant Theatre District. Think of it as a continuation of the layered surfacing and textures in Putman's work.
It's also good lesson in curation. "We took an edited
approach to the design to create a series of different spaces
from social to serene that have a clarity and simplicity of design
in color and materiality," says founding partner George Yabu. In
other words, it's the careful balance of hard/soft visual
dynamics that's as sought after right now as entry to Studio 54
in its heyday.
