worked at other high-profile firms such as Steven Holl Architects and
Richard Meier & Partners-studios that taught her rigor, discipline,
and how to think in three dimensions.
Born in Cuba to immigrant parents, Bosch draws from a deep
well of cultural references that not only shape her own identity but
inform her work. She credits her diverse background, which she calls
a superpower, for teaching her that societies are best understood
from within. "I always had bottomless curiosity and a desire to truly
understand those I met or those who surrounded me," she says. "I
believe in immersing oneself into a place, with all senses, in order
to be able to create, resolve, and deliver successful, thoughtful, and
meaningful design."
She deployed this approach when working on Princess Nora
Bint Abdulrahman University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It's a project
that was particularly resonant, providing up to 65,000 women with
a state-of-the-art university. "I found myself wanting to pay homage
to the women I got to meet and to future generations of brave and
brilliant professionals that could change the world as we knew it,"
she says. "I created these complex buildings that were shrouded both
metaphorically and physically in veils. It impacted me profoundly
and reminded me that there is importance in my work and that we
can help empower women with our actions."
Having achieved recognition herself, Bosch has made it a mission
to change the conversation around women in the industry. While
she feels her gender has in many ways defined her journey, she's
working toward a time when that won't be true for others. "We are
seeing change, but it is not significant enough. Quite frankly, women
in power need to use that power to propel change further. I carry that
burden with honor."
