In the years since, Gonzalez has spearheaded
more than 150 pop-ups (many of which have become
permanent), but it was her first with NFP Studio that
was perhaps the most formative. "I quickly learned
that a human connection would prevail above all else,
so I needed to understand the balance between the
function technology plays and the power of emotional
connections, driven by human interactions," she
says. "Over the years, I have had a front-row seat and
witnessed how the adoption of technology has shifted
consumer behavior and expectations. It's been an
education for the industry on how much brands and
retailers, as well as designers and consultants, need to
continuously evolve to best serve customers."
In 2014, Gonzalez added author to her list of
achievements, publishing The Pop-Up Paradigm:
How Brands Build Human Connections in a Digital Age
Today, Gonzalez finds inspiration in other industries,
exploring how innovation in unexpected sectors
can be applied to her own, as well as championing
cooperation more broadly. "We are seeing a shift
toward more collaboration between women
designers," she says. "It's important to have more
diverse representation in design, so what is created
has a more well-rounded perspective for
the end consumer. We need to understand the
customer if we are going to deliver something that
speaks to them."
