FWSA is very proud to have so many
clubs and councils actively supporting a huge
variety of charities. Thirteen years ago, the
Far West Ski Association established the
"Charity and Community Service Recognition" program to recognize our ski club
and council members' efforts. By openly honoring so many groups within our FWSA
family at our FWSA Conventions, we encourage others to become more involved with charity activities and donations.
FWSA's 10 participating ski councils have
always been committed to supporting charitable giving and volunteerism. Through the
generous donations and volunteer services of
our individual members, we hope to enhance
the quality of life within our communities.
Congratulations to the members of our clubs
and councils, their presidents, and their charity
program organizers. These are admirable
groups, who selflessly support so many charities.
At the annual FWSA Convention, the top
winners of the Charity Recognition prepare a
photo display board showing our delegates
and industry friends just how much FWSA
members care, and how much we do for
others! The charity displays have always been
very impressive! A great big thank you and
congratulations to our FWSA members for all
their involvement with charitable organizations.
Most of our clubs and councils are in
some way involved with charitable activities,
doing amazing work for those who are less
fortunate. At this year's Convention, FWSA
gave special recognition to Rusty Bindings Ski

for doing so much for so many charitable organizations.

Charities & Our Community Chair, FWSA

Club of the Bay Area Snow Sports Council for
their generous charity support. This group of
wonderfully enthusiastic members worked
hard and diligently this past year under the
leadership of president, Janet Spencer with
many charitable organizations. The Care Bear
Donations Program was a fun activity, which
involved sewing and stuffing bears to distribute to needy and homeless children and dementia patients. The club donated hundreds
of bears to many of their local charities: Vestia,
Inc. assists those at risk in the community, Bay
Area Crisis Nursery provides safe housing for
families in need, the Monument Crisis Center
offers programs to underprivileged adults and
children, BrightStar Care provides in-home care
to dementia patients who can cuddle the bears
for comfort, SHELTER, Inc. provides homeless
services and housing assistance, the Bikes for
Tykes Charity received bikes along with the
cuddly bears! The Concord Police Department
received two bears, and the United Professional
Firefighters of Contra Costa County carry two
bears in each of their 28 engines, just in case
there's a need! Club members also organized
a Christmas gift wrapping program for the Bay

Area Crisis Nursery. Rusty Binding's members
enjoyed supporting the Achieve Tahoe Disabled
Sports Program for people of all ages who need
assistance in performing outdoor sports. The
club has provided teams that participate in
their charity ski events benefitting the Disabled
Sports USA Wounded Warriors Program. At this
year's FWSA Convention, Rusty Bindings Ski
Club displayed a beautiful picture board
appearing on the next page, showing their
impressive involvement with many charitable
community activities. Industry representatives,
ski club delegates and visitors expressed their
amazement at the variety and the extent of
volunteerism and charity support within the
FWSA family.

Can Do MS is a phenomenal charity supported by many councils and clubs. One of
FWSA's major awards is named after its
founder, Jimmie Heuga. Can Do MS leads the
way to empowering individuals and families
living with MS to transform and improve their
quality of life. Everything done at Can Do MS
