On September 29, 2018, the
Presidents of the member clubs
of the National Brotherhood of
Skiers - Western Region (NBSWR)
voted to accept the invitation to
become the 10th Council of the
Far West Ski Association (FWSA)
because in a TEAM, Together
Each Achieves More! The 13 independent entities that comprise
the NBSWR have joined together
to benefit from economies of
scale, shared information and resources, and overall camaraderie.
Each organization has their own
identity, yet we share common
objectives of expanding interest
and participation in organized
snowsports. That same concept
holds true for the NBSWR and
the organizations that comprise
the FWSA.  Each of the clubs of
the NBSWR welcomes you to
join us in any activities or trips!
Many of the leaders of the
National Brotherhood of Skiers Western Region were excited to
attend their first Far West Ski Association Annual Convention from
June 13-16, 2019 in Indian Wells,
California.  As the 10th Council
to join the Far West Ski Association, the NBSWR made an immediate impact:

n "Brotherhood of Skiing",
the REI film about the National
Brotherhood of Skiers, was presented with the Far West Ski
Association's Warren Miller
Modern Media Award.
n Todd Hood (SnowBusters Ski Club of Pasadena)
was awarded with the Councils'
Man of the Year Recognition
while serving double duty as
Master of Cceremonies for the
FWSA Awards Program.
n Afarah Board (Inland
Empire Ski and Sports Club)
WOWed 75 participants at the
Snowsports Leadership
Academy on "Getting Over the
Ifs, Through the Ands, and Off the
Buts" - A Workshop on Overcoming Objections to Build Your
Membership and Leadership
Pipeline.
n Teri Allard (Inland
Empire Ski and Sports) represented the Western Region in
the Councils' Woman of the
Year Recognition.
n NBSWR member club
leaders like Yolanda Lockhart
(SnowBusters), Jane Gutierrez
(Four Seasons West Ski and Snowboard Club), Frank Robertson
(Winter Fox Ski Association),
Brenda Holden and Josephine
Cheatham (SnowBusters);
Benelia Terry (Fire & Ice Ski
Club); Iris Williams and
Thomas McClain (Executive
Board Snowboard Association);
Cleo Board (Inland Empire Ski

and Sports); and Paige Hendrix,
Jackie Bartlow Sales, Eric
Blackmon, and Dr. Lori Moore
(Four Seasons West) volunteered
at and/or attended the Silent
Auction, meetings, workshops,
parties, and meal events.
n We launched ticket sales
announcing our "2020 Vision
Grand Prize Drawing" for
thousands of dollars of prizes,
including a week-long stay in
Squaw Valley, a weekend stay
in Las Vegas, a free 2021 Urban
Winterfest All Access Pass, and

Congratulations, and thank
you to all the Far West Ski Association Award winners, volunteers, voting delegates, registrants,
participants, and supporters. 
 
NBS and the US Ski and
Snowboard Hall of Fame
It was recently announced
that National Brotherhood of
Skiers Founders, Ben Finley and
Art Clay, will be inducted into
the US Ski and Snowboard Hall
of Fame!  The induction ceremony https://skihall.com/induction will be held in Sun Valley,
Idaho on March 25-28, 2020.
  The NBS that Art and Ben
started nearly 50 years ago has
created tens of thousands of
snowsport enthusiasts responsible for generating hundreds of

millions of dollars in revenue in
the snowsports industry. The NBS'
annual gathering is known industry-wide as the largest ski event
in America.
  Since March of 2016, a team
worked to get Ben and Art inducted into the US Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame.  For the past
two years, Ben and Art qualified
to be considered for placement on
the ballot, however were not selected.  Special thanks go out to
Kim Bentley, Naomi Bryson,
Peggie Allen, Jane Gutierrez, Joe
Long, Billy Kidd, and the Far
West Ski Association for your
support in this endeavor!
  In addition to Ben and Art's
nominations, the National Brotherhood of Skiers is now a recognized member of the U.S. Ski and
Snowboard Hall of Fame's National Voting Panel (NVP).  The
National Voting Panel is comprised of the board members
from:

n Cross Country Ski Areas
Association (CSSAA)
n The US Ski and Snowboard
Hall of Fame
n United States Olympics
(USOC)
n Sports Specialists Ltd. (SSL)
n Regional Museum and Ski
