Our 10 Sierra Council clubs
and race teams enthusiastically
welcome new members to join in
their snowsports and other activities. The larger member clubs
offer a variety of year-round
activities, including golf, tennis,
campouts, hiking, bike riding and
trips to summer outdoor productions. Their membership meetings provide additional opportunities for social interaction, as do
their parties and happy hours.
Our members enthusiastically participate in the Far West
Ski Association trips and we are
looking forward to the North
American Ski Week at Big Sky.
We were excited to win the Costume Team Award at the Steamboat Ski Week Council Challenge
for dressing as Wizard of Oz
characters.
Our clubs enthusiastically
welcome new members to join in
their trips, snowsports and social
activities.
Our council spans a large
geographic area in Nevada and
northern California. There are
two Sierra Council ski clubs in
Las Vegas - the Las Vegas Alpine
Ski and Snowboard Club and

the Las Vegas Ski, Snowboard
and Sports Club. They offer
winter ski trips, hiking, and yearround social activities.
There are two clubs which
are largely based in Truckee.
The Tahoe Donner Senior Alpine Ski Club members mostly
live in Tahoe Donner. They enjoy group ski days at Lake Tahoe
ski resorts throughout the winter,
as well as, social activities.
While many Cabernet Ski
and Race Club members live in
the Truckee-Tahoe area, they
have members in a variety of locations. As its name indicates, the
club's primary focus is racing.
The Capital Ski and Sports
Club, based in Sacramento, offers
skiing and social activities. The
Sequoia Ski Club is in Visalia,
California. The RU Ski Club
draws primarily from the Bay
Area. As the name indicates, many
of their members are Russian.
In northern Nevada, the
Reno Ski and Recreation Club
offers a full schedule of social activities throughout the year, as
well as, summer camping trips
and group ski days at Lake Tahoe
resorts.

This was followed by a post trip
to Greece with Mayflower Tours.
The group in Amsterdam was
able to tour the Red Light District, do a nighttime canal cruise,
visit the famous Kuekenhof Tulip
Gardens and join in the famous
national holiday, King of Orange
Day. It was quite an experience
to see everyone dressed all up in
orange, and take over the central
part of Amsterdam.
The Greece tour started out
in Athens with a visit to the Parthenon, then a speedboat to the
island of Mykonos for wonderful
shopping and great Greek salads.
They finished the tour in Santorini, which had the most amazing
views and sunsets.
The council will be heading
to Melbourne - Australia, New
Zealand and Fiji starting in October with Grand Circle Tours.
We are taking about 40 people to
visit all the famous landmarks in
each of these countries.
The 2020 calendar is already
filled up with another Bike and
Barge Trip down the Mosel River
in Germany, followed by a post
trip to Iceland with Mayflower
Tours.
A large turnout of club delegates attended the Far West Ski
Association Convention in Indian
Wells in June, and San Diego will
be the Host Council for the 89th
Annual FWSA Convention in 2021.
The council continues to
support the United States Adaptive Recreation Center (USARC)
program in Big Bear, California
with a yearly donation. It also
contributes to the FWSA Athletic Scholarship program, and
we currently support a young
racer from Mammoth Mountain,
Aidan LeFrancios.
The council will be holding
its annual Gala/Party in November, where we announce our
Council Man and Woman of the
Year and the Joe Harris Award recipients. We will also be working
on helping our clubs build their
memberships and participating in
a lot of ski events in the upcoming winter season. Visit www.skisandiego.org for more details.
