There has been a flurry of activity throughout the Far West Communications portfolio. The
VP of Communications leads a broad group of dedicated volunteers across six programs. Those
programs are the FWSA Website, The Councilman, The Skier's Guide, Far West News Flash, our
Social Media platforms, and Mass Media productions. These dedicated members spend a significant
number of hours providing content for the Far West community.
Our website has been adding and updating content at a rapid pace this year across all programs
of the FWSA, from updating our Awards, Convention, Travel, Public Affairs, Membership,
Marketing & Sponsorship and Benefits to name a few. There have been changes across the board,
so be sure to check the site often.
While the website is viewable to the public, there are some areas of the site that require
members to log-in to the system, especially when registering for Convention or one of our many
trips. We have two basic member classes; one is Direct members and the other is an affiliated
member which is a member of FWSA member clubs and councils. Many of our past trip participants
and direct members already have a username for the system, so before registering check
to see if you are already in our system, and if you are then just request a new password.
All our clubs and councils can add their functions and trips to our events calendar. One
can even signup to receive the Far West NewsFlash simply by checking the " NewsFlash Subscription "
box under the " Interests " section of the Member Profile.
We are beginning to accept payments through the website. This year, besides direct membership
payments, we created an FWSA Store, and the Dive Trip payments are also being accepted
through the site. All other payments are handled via FWSA Connect.
This issue of the Far West Skier's Guide has fewer pages than past issues due to the ongoing
pandemic which has reduced advertising. This will also be our first digital only edition.
We have enhanced our advertising policy in that we will be accepting digital only advertising in
addition to print. The digital edition will also include the ability for slide shows and video.
Our Far West Ski Association Team
Our Far West Skier's Guide team, Leigh Gieringer our editor and publisher and Jane
Wyckoff our assistant editor, will still produce a high-quality issue to make us proud. We hope
you enjoy this issue.
The Councilman, is our bi-annual internal magazine, edited by Nick Cowell. This magazine
keeps our membership informed on the happenings at all levels of the Association, including our
Councils and their clubs.
Debbi Kor edits and publishes the Far West NewsFlash. This is a monthly newsletter that
is an email subscription-based publication for our members and industry friends. We encourage
our councils and clubs to submit articles and information, too.
Our Marketing Media guru, George Stewart, recently produced three new videos for our
travel program. They are available to view in the travel section starting on page 13, on our Facebook
page and on our You Tube channel accessible from our website photo albums.
Jane Gutierrez is our Social Media chair. She oversees our Facebook and Twitter feeds.
There are other folks who help posting to feeds. If you have an event you want to publicize to
the FWSA membership, send the info to Jane, including pictures.

Copies of Past Issues to be Sent to California Ski Library
Leigh Gieringer, Publisher and Jane Wyckoff, Assistant Editor, and founders of the
Far West Skier's Guide, will be presenting bound volumes with a copy of each issue of the
publication, from its founding in 1988 to the present, to Ingrid Wicken, founder and
curator of the California Ski Library. The library is home to one of the most extensive
collections of ski books, magazines, photographs, and paper memorabilia in the United
States. The Far West Skier's Guide is an official publication of the FWSA. For additional
