Schone Malliet, CEO and Founder
National Winter Activity Center is located
in Vernon, New Jersey. The Far West
Ski Association presented Schone Malliet,
CEO and Founder, with the Snowsports
Builder Award at its 88th Annual Convention
in October, 2021.
The Snowsports Builder
Award is given to an individual who has made
an indelible positive impact on snowsports.
His goal is to " make a POSITIVE difference in
the lives of others. "
The Winter4Kids program was developed
out of an initiative of the National
Winter Sports Education Foundation, whose
mission is to improve the lives, health and fitness
of youth through winter activities. The
organization has the collaboration of several
nationally recognized partner organizations.
The Center introduces children to activities
that they would not typically be exposed
to or consider trying, while making it economically
feasible. The program includes wholesome
meals, fitted gear and six weeks of
lessons, typically held on weekends. The mission
of Winter4Kids is to create healthy lifestyles
and influence behaviors of youth
through winter activities. Winter sports and
the outdoors serves as a catalyst to create, influence
and promote healthy lifestyles. It instills
positive attitudes, changes outlooks and
lives among the most underserved communities,
primarily those of color. The Center
served 180 children in its first year of operation,
and in 2018, more than 1,400 kids came
through the program. The projection is to
serve 10,000 children by the end of the year.
Through this program, better health and
attitudes result from an increased moderate to
vigorous activity, nutritious food, and personal
development. Outlooks are bright and lives
are changed as participants become better individuals
through the mastery of snow and
life skills. The youth involved in the program
use these experiences to explore and pursue
new academic, life and sport opportunities.
Shone has a BA in Economics from Holy
Cross College and an MBA from Pepperdine
University. He has a broad set of accomplishments
to draw upon from family, military, athWinter4Kids
participants learning how to snowboard. The mission of the program is to
provide for ALL, without conditions, and to deliver winter and summer outdoor program
activities that: avoid self-harm violence, substance abuse, food insecurity and other negative
experiences and behavior by youth; expand choices and opportunities; provide sustainable
access; and increase lifetime enthusiasts and winter sport competitors. photo provided by Winter4Kids

letic and corporate environments, as a Marine
pilot, alpine ski racing coach, CEO of Vi-aNovus,
alyXsys Inc, and senior sales and marketing
executive. He was the Chair and Founder
of the National Winter Sports Education
Foundation, and is currently a Vice President
of the Holy Cross Alumni Association Board,
former Chair, YMCA Board of Managers and
is involved in many facets of winter sports
through US Ski and Snowboard.
