Region (NBSWR)

Vice President
The National Brotherhood
of Skiers (NBS), founded in 1973,
is comprised of over 50 clubs
throughout the United States,
with approximately 3,500 members
throughout its member clubs.
The NBS hosts its Annual Summit,
one of the nation's largest
gatherings of skiers and snowboarders.
The Annual Summit is
a fundraiser that supports the
NBS Olympic Scholarship Fund
and its mission to identify, develop
and support athletes of
color who will compete in Olympic
and international winter
sports competitions, representing
the United States, and increase
participation in winter sports.
There are four regions within the
NBS, the western, rocky mountain,
mid-west, and eastern regions.
Each region has a Vice
President and Board of Directors
and report to the current NBS
President, Henry Rivers.
NBSWR members attended the Induction ceremony of founders Ben Finley and Art Clay into the US Ski &
Snowboard Hall of Fame, and honored one of their Western Region founding clubs, All Seasons Ski & Snowboard
Club in Oakland, CA. The NBS and NBSWR have recognized them for their service and commitment to
promoting, enhancing, and providing recreational opportunities in Winter Snowsports within the African
American and minority communities. All Seasons Ski Club was formed in 1972 by a small pioneering group of
African American skiers who encountered few like themselves on the slopes. In 1974, ASSC and 11 other ski clubs
across the US founded their national umbrella organization, the NBS. The club offers group ski packages to
venues all over the world, social outings, activities, and networking opportunities to reflect the diverse interests of
our members - single and married, male and female, skiers, boarders, mono-skiers, and non-skiers alike. ASSC

The National Brotherhood
of Skiers Western Region
(NBSWR) covers California, Nevada,
Arizona, Oregon, and Washington
and is currently comprised
of 14 member clubs serving their
area communities. Many of our
member clubs have year-round
adult and family activities from
skiing, Alpine and Nordic, snowmobiling,
bicycling, hiking, camping,
river rafting, houseboating,
and attending jazz festivals. " We
are focused on the growth and prosperity
of our clubs, supporting the
mission of the NBS, promoting diversity
in snowsports with passion,
unity, and harmony through fun
and education. " - David Geiger,

Currently, the NBSWR is in
full swing marketing and preparing
for an entire week of snowsports
activities and fun at the
NBS 50th Anniversary Summit
to be held February 4-11, 2023, at
Vail Resort in Colorado. The
event is expected to draw over
2,000 participants from the
United States and internationally.
Additionally, the NBSWR has
sold out its summer FunFest
2022 fundraising trip to Panama
City, Panama, at the all-inclusive
Westin Playa Bonita Resort, taking
104 travelers.
The NBSWR has partnered
with the Far West Ski Association
to increase cultural awareness
in snowsport and create
opportunities to educate and expose
member clubs and councils
to diversity, equity, and inclusion
concepts. Members of the
NBSWR actively participate in
the Far West Ski Association
(FWSA) Annual Convention. At
the FWSA Annual Convention
2022, held in Portland, Oregon,
Todd Hood (SnowBusters Ski
Club of Pasadena and Immediate
Past VP of NBSWR) served as a
moderator for the Snowsports Leadership
Academy Sessions, and Lori
Moore (Four Seasons West Ski &
Snowboard Club of Los Angeles)
represented the NBSWR in the
Councils' Volunteer of the Year Program.
Also, Jane Gutierrez (Four
Seasons West Ski & Snowboard
Club of Los Angeles) currently
serves as the FWSA Social Media
Chair.
The National Brotherhood of
Skiers Western Region is open to
working with other snowsports organizations
in pursuing initiatives
and promoting diversity and inclusion
in winter sports. We are proud
of the work we have done thus far
and look forward to greater opportunities.
