an organization with value. Volunteers want
to know they are making a difference. They
want to share a burning " why " that excites
them. The purpose is what keeps them engaged
and involved, even through trials and

It is hard to believe the ski and snowboard season is quickly approaching, when it seems like
the last just ended. The Far West Ski Association's Communications team had a busy year, and
it's not over yet. Our portfolio consists of six (6) programs, including three (3) publications, all
staffed by a dedicated group of volunteers.
One of these publications is the Far West Skier's Guide, this publication, with this year's
magazine being the 36th Annual Edition. It informs the public about our snowsports activities
within our clubs and councils. If you are looking for likeminded people to ski and board with,
then check out the rest of this publication to locate a club near you, and come enjoy the fun with
us on the slopes, and in a variety of other activities and travel destinations throughout the world.
Other programs within our Communications portfolio are: The Councilman, the Far West
NewsFlash, our Social Media platforms, the FWSA Website, and Marketing & Media productions.
Our volunteer members spend a significant number of hours providing content for the Far
West community.
We added a new program this year on a trial basis, to evaluate how well it would integrate
with our convention and travel programs. This program is a robust app called Whova, that aided
the membership during our convention. It was widely used and received mostly positive feedback.
We have determined to move forward with this app again for next year's convention and possibly
for our travel programs.
The Far West Skier's Guide transitioned to a digital only publication two years ago. It is accessible
not only on our website www.fwsa.org, but also on many of our club and council websites.
Please read through the publication and come back often to stay informed and share the links
with your friends and family. New this year, we are offering a subscription program if you would
like to purchase a printed copy of the next year's edition (see page 14). Our team of Leigh Gieringer
- Publisher and Jane Wyckoff - Editor, produce a high-quality issue to make us proud. We hope
you enjoy this issue. Check it out on the website. If you would like to place an advertisement,

The Councilman, is our internal magazine, edited and published by Nick Cowell. It is published
twice yearly as a digital edition. This magazine keeps the membership updated on the happenings
at all levels of the association, including our councils and their clubs.
Debbi Kor edits and publishes the Far West NewsFlash. This is a monthly newsletter that is
an email subscription-based publication for our members and industry friends. We encourage our
councils and clubs to submit articles and information, too.
The FWSA Social Media Program oversees our Facebook and Twitter feeds and our newest
addition, our Instagram page, that is still a work in progress. There are many other folks who help
posting to our feeds. If you have an event you want to publicize to the FWSA membership, send
the information to us at socialmedia@fwsa.org and include pictures with captions and credits.
Our Marketing Media guru, George Stewart, produces new videos each year highlighting
our conventions, travel destinations and special events. They are all available to view and found
on our YouTube channel located at https://www.youtube.com/user/farwestskiassoc/videos, and
are accessible from our website photo albums and our Facebook Page and Group.
The website is our main avenue of information to our membership and the public. It continues
to grow across all programs of the FWSA, from our Awards, Conventions, Travel, Public
Affairs, Membership, Marketing & Sponsorship and Benefits, to name a few. There have been
changes across the board, so be sure to check us out at www.fwsa.org . Our site is now accessible
via the FWSA app. You can download the app from the Google Play or Apple Stores.

only. Members can access these restricted areas by logging into the system, especially when renewing
their membership or registering for our events, such as convention or one of our travel
programs. Our site is one stop shopping. You can register and pay for any of our events online
- no paperwork and no checks to write and mail unless you are so inclined.
All our clubs and councils can add their functions and trips to our events calendar. One
can even signup to receive the Far West NewsFlash simply by checking the " NewsFlash subscription "
box under the " Interests " section of their Member Profile.
