Los Angeles
Council of Ski Clubs

The Los Angeles Council of
Ski Clubs, Inc. has 18 snowsports
(skiing, boarding, and social) clubs
that cover almost all of the Los
Angeles County. LAC is one of
the largest of the 10 Councils of
the Far West Ski Association, and
is is a member of the National Ski
Council Federation. The general
age of the council's clubs varies,
but there are many, many very active,
very enthusiastic members in
these clubs.
Summer finds many of the
clubs out for hiking, biking, kayaking,
sailing, and up to Mammoth
Mountain for their summer
programs.
Winter brings up
echos of wonderful snow covered
mountains in Mammoth Mountain
Ski Area, with its trails that
twist and turn, and some that just
go straight down the hill! California
and our western states' ski resorts
had some of the best winter
snow that can be imagined this
past seasion, and there were lots
of opportunities for our clubs to
go skiing. Due to the large population
and number of ski clubs
in the L.A. area, we have small
clubs, large clubs, winter and
summer sports programs and a
number of the clubs go together
for better pricing on their trips,
different events to do, and more
people just makes for more fun.
The main ski resort for ski
trips, by bus or drive up, is Mammoth
Mountain Ski Area, a five
hour drive from central Los Angeles.
Mammoth offers a myriad
of year-round outdoor activities
(skiing in winter; mountain biking,
hiking and camping in
summer). This is also where
most of the council races happen,
and are part of Far West Racing
Association. Los Angeles supports
its ROKKA race leagues,
and our own Laura Preiss (also
our VP Travel) is its President.
Included on the schedule are:
ROKKA Race Camp; the Ski,
Ride & Race Week; three race
weekends, the SoCal Championships,
and the Far West Racing
Association Championships.
Century City Ski Club, Wailers
Ski Club, and Long Beach Ski
Club have bus or drive up trips
to Mammoth Mountain Ski Area
each month from December,
2023 to April, 2024. Be sure to
check their websites to make
sure of their trip dates.
Los Angeles Council participates
in the FWSA Annual Ski
Week each season, and earlier
this year found 46 council
members at Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Once again, the winter
months gave us some of THE
VERY BEST SNOW I've seen in
years. Laura Priess did a wonderful
job of hosting, connecting,
checking, and leading or keeping

up with all the groups in our
council that attended. The week
was made so special because of
all those that attended. Everyone
was very gracious, very accommodating,
and happy to be at
a great ski resort.
For the FWSA 2024 Annual
Ski Week, our participants are
looking forward to Steamboat
Springs, Colorado. There is always
great skiing at one of the
west's premiere ski resorts.
LAC has a number of clubs
that do their own Annual Ski
Week. Century City Ski Club is
headed to Sun Valley, Idaho set
for February 10-17, 2024. Conejo
Ski Club has scheduled: Sun Valley,
Idaho, February 3-10, 2024;
Big Sky, Montana on March 2 for
a week; Turks & Caicos Club
Med trip leaving May 3; with
Scotland going July 9 - busy club!
Beach Cities Ski Club is headed
to Snowmass on March 2, 2024.
This is just a few of the LAC
clubs and their trips.
As the clubs post their
Mammoth Mountain and other
ski trips on their websites, the
LAC website posts those trips
and dates to make it easy for
someone to find a group with
whom to go skiing.
