Shortly after being hired as
president of North America
Pharmaceuticals for Sanofi in late 2011,
Anne Whitaker carved out new
leadership roles for a top talent team of
25 first-line leaders to become
dedicated change agents on a special
two-year assignment. Their primary
function was to prepare the
organization for the forthcoming
commercial model change.
"Within an organization the size of
Sanofi, it can sometimes be challenging
to foster an environment that includes
openness and trust," Whitaker said.
"Launching the change agent initiative
addresses the importance of building a
culture where employees know their
needs and ideas are being heard and
that they are part of the process for
change. It is important to me that we
harness all of our employees' skills to
adapt, flex and respond more nimbly to
the ever-evolving landscape."
Whitaker chose Craig Flanagan to
lead the change agents, who were
charged with energizing and seeding
new capabilities in the organization
covering three areas:
* Change agility - training leaders to
respond to the chaos of change.
* Teaming through a team coaching
process that has teams create and
own a new game plan; and
* Launching continuous
improvement processes.
