Soil Mix for Container Growing
We recommend using a high-quality, professional grade soil mix that is adjusted to work with your
water quality and growing style.
A peat-lite based soil or equivalent that gives you 60 - 70% organic matter and 30 - 40%
secondary aggregates, such as perlite, rockwool, coir and/or bark, will provide proper soil porosity
for good drainage.
Transplant
Water lightly to maintain the necessary moisture level within the root zone until the roots reach
the side of the finished container.
Do not water containers heavily at time of transplant and move to a cold environment. For best
results, water lightly and grow warm until the roots reach the side of the finished container, then
plants can be grown at cooler temperatures.

Rooting Out Temperatures
We recommend rooting out all crops at 65° - 72° F. Rooting out includes growing roots to the
edge of the pot while growing on/bulking the plants.
Holding Temperatures
For toning crops and/or for when you have to hold the crop in its current condition.
A crops: 40° - 50° F (outdoors)
B crops: 50° - 60° F
C crops: Maintain growing temperatures listed
Fertilizing
A current water test is necessary before purchasing fertilizer to ensure you are using the correct
fertilizer blend. This season, Four Star will cover the $40 testing fee for any customer new to the
Proven Winners fertilizer program. We also recommend that existing customers retest every few
years, but it is not required. Please contact your sales representative for more information.
In most cases, constant 150ppm - 200ppm N is the best option. Slow release can also be used to
help in outdoor growing production. Refer to the Culture Guide for information.

and Proven Selections®
crops. Our four standard blends improve pH management, and the iron
EDDHA allows for maximum iron uptake while minimizing iron deficiency problems. The Greening
Formula is an excellent option for correcting pH and greening up a crop quickly. A Holding Formula
