You Can't Take the
Firehouse out of the Boy

If you've never heard of the "5-Alarm Task Force" podcast, you
really need to find it. For four seasons, Steve Greene has streamed
important conversations with industry leaders on topics that educate,
analyze, and entertain.
In the beginning, Steve worked for a synagogue in North
Carolina where he made friends with the volunteer firefighters that
worked down the street. Firefighting was always something Steve
respected and was thrilled when they asked him to join the department. After serving eight years, an injury derailed his firefighting
aspirations. Eventually, Steve and his family moved to South Florida,
but firefighting never left his heart. They say "you can take the boy
out of the firehouse, but you can't take the firehouse out of the boy,"
and for Steve, that holds true.
Since retiring, Steve keeps busy with his podcast, and is now
pitching a TV series titled "Cause & Origin," a drama about a group
of firefighters in Philadelphia. In addition, Steve wrote a book titled
"Fish Out of Water - Two Jewish Guys in a Deep South Firehouse,"
about how he became a volunteer firefighter which is available on
Amazon as an e-book.

more added all the time. To find Steve's podcast, you can go to
any major podcast platforms such as iTunes, Google Play, Spotify®,
iHeartRadio and search "5-Alarm Task Force," or simply download

The fire service has unwittingly
used a failure-based training
model for many years. Handson training exercises are
often based on unachievable
objectives, leaving participants
stressed to learn activities that require a mastery
skill level before competency has even been
established. This amounts to never-ending tests
without actual skill development. "Developing

a journey to train, establish relevance for the
