NOVEMBER 2009 COMPILED BY ANDREW WIDENER Predator or prey? J aws has come to Atlanta. No, not the terrifying man-eater from the 1975 film. It’s the new exhibition at the Georgia Aquarium, Planet Shark: Predator or Prey, running now through the middle of 2010. This exhibition is the world’s most comprehensive “out of water” shark event, and Atlantans will be among the first to tour it. Planet Shark: Predator or Prey holds more than 10,000 square feet of interactive and educational models, displays and various forms of media. It presents facts and dispels myths about one of the world’s most fearsome yet misunderstood creatures. The exhibition shows not only the shark’s predatory side, it also explores our fascination with the animal and the real threat of extinction some species of shark face. “Planet Shark will not only complement our current collection of live sharks, but will also provide our guests with a unique educational perspective on an animal that has reigned over the ocean for more than 450 million years,” says Anthony Godfrey, president and COO of the Georgia Aquarium.
