According to the National Weather Service, there was an average of 21 tornadoes per year in Georgia from 1961 to 1990. For 2011, there were 67 reported tornadoes, resulting in 16 deaths and almost $178 million in damages.

The American Flag flies at a Spalding County home damaged by the April 2011 tornadoes. The state was pummeled by 15 tornadoes, including a powerful EF-4 and five EF-3 twisters. It was the most active tornado month on record.
