Works by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and her husband, painter and muralist Diego Rivera, will be featured through May 12 at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. The only U.S. venue to host this exhibition, Frida & Diego: Passion, Politics and Painting is presented in both English and Spanish. Georgia Regents University in Augusta was given the ﬁnal OK by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents. This new university consolidates Augusta State and Georgia Health Sciences universities and includes nine colleges, nearly 10,000 students, more than 650 acres of campus, more than 1,000 full-time faculty, approximately 5,600 staff, an integrated health system and a growing intercollegiate athletics program. The school’s economic impact is estimated at nearly $1.3 billion. Visit www.gru.edu for details. 8 Members of the Herrington family were presented with a Georgia Centennial Family Farm Award in 2012 for their Appling County farm. The award recognizes Georgia farms that have been owned by the same family for more than 100 years. Seeking Georgia’s centennial farms The Georgia Centennial Farm program is celebrating its 20th year of honoring the contributions of farm families throughout Georgia. The program was created to draw attention to historic farms and encourage their preservation. Since 1993, the program has recognized 426 farms around the state. Nominees must be working farms with a minimum of 10 acres of the original purchase actively involved in agricultural production and must make at least $1,000 in annual farm-generated income. Additionally, Georgia drummer competes farms must have been continuously farmed by members of the same family for at least 100 years. Qualifying farms are honored each October at an awards ceremony at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry. Applications are available online at www.georgiacentennialfarms.org. Georgia native Devon Taylor, of Fayetteville, competed recently as a grand ﬁnalist in Guitar Center’s DrumOff contest. The 21-year-old drummer won at his local store drum-off and went on to compete nationally in the quarter ﬁnals, semiﬁnals and then at the ﬁnals Jan. 19 in Los Angeles, Calif., in front of a live audience and a panel of celebrity judges.
