Go for the crunch of sweet Georgia apples
othing says fall in Georgia like crisp,
locally grown apples, and September is the start of U-pick season at many of
the state's apple orchards. The Red Apple
Barn in Ellijay offers pick-your-own apples
beginning Aug. 29 and continues each
weekend through the end of October, or
until all the apples are picked. Visitors can
also enjoy wagon rides on the farm.
"With 12 acres planted with 22 different varieties of apples, Red Apple Barn has
just about every kind of apple you would
want," says Barry Pritchett, owner of Red
Apple Barn. "Apple picking is a farming
tradition each fall and a perfect way to
spend a day with family and friends."
Red Apple Barn's U-pick pumpkin
patch opens in October, and visitors can
select a pumpkin from the field or at the
farm's U-pick shed.
"We've set up picnic tables made
from locally hewn timber, and we'll be
practicing social-distancing guidelines
this year," he says. "People love to get
