When you save energy at home, you're helping
your family save money and protecting our
environment.
Read the energy-saving tips below, then ﬁnd and
circle the bolded words in the puzzle.
* Close blinds and curtains on hot,
sunny days to block additional
heat from entering your home.

* Turn off the water while you
brush your teeth.

* Only clean full loads of dishes when
you run the dishwasher.
* Cooking with smaller appliances like
slow cookers and toaster ovens use
less energy than larger appliances.
* Unplug phone chargers when they're
not in use - they consume energy even
when they aren't charging devices.

Name change: Tucker-based Green Power
EMC has rebranded its educational program as SPARK Energy Education Program.
The program helps teachers incorporate
instruction about renewable energy in their
schools.

he National Rural Electric
Cooperative Association
(NRECA) in Arlington, Va., sends
its member electric membership
cooperatives (EMCs) nationwide a
monthly packet of Energy Explorers
games and puzzles to engage children
in learning about electricity. Coastal
Electric Cooperative in Midway, for
example, prints the activity sheets and
places them at the front desk for youngsters who come into the office. The
co-op sometimes posts the puzzles,
such as this word search about conserving energy above, on its Facebook
page. In that same post on June 30,
Coastal Electric encouraged adult
members to learn more energy-saving
tips and test their knowledge with the
Home Energy Adventure offered by
Touchstone Energy Cooperatives at
adventure.touchstoneenergy.com.

Cooperation among cooperatives

By working together through local,
national, regional and international
structures, cooperatives improve services,
bolster local economies and deal more
effectively with social and community
needs.

A legend honored: Georgia EMC in Tucker
sponsored an Atlanta Press Club Newsmaker
Series webinar on July 14 to honor civil
rights icon and U.S. Rep. John Lewis-just
days before his death on July 17. The
webinar featured an online discussion about
Lewis' life and legacy. Among the panelists
were the director and producer of a new
documentary, "John Lewis: Good Trouble."
The webinar drew nearly 300 participants,
the largest virtual attendance to date for the
Atlanta Press Club. To see the webinar, go to

Youth Tour (WYT)
was canceled this
year, depriving students throughout
Georgia of their
opportunity to learn
about the U.S. government and gain
leadership skills for a week in the nation's
capital. But Georgia EMC took to social media
every Wednesday this summer to spotlight
the students who had been selected by their
local electric cooperatives to attend the
event.

Historic cancellation: The Sunbelt Ag Expo,
an annual farm show held by Sunbelt Ag
Expo North America, has
been canceled
for this year-
the first cancellation since the
expo began in
1978. The expo
was scheduled
to be held
Oct. 20-22 at
Spence Field in
Moultrie. Several
of the state's electric membership cooperatives (EMCs) attend the event to share the
co-op story with visitors. To learn more about

Fun ways
to learn

On the line: Carrollton-based Carroll EMC
awarded scholarships to eight local students
who want to pursue careers as linemen. This
year's recipients were Carl Cooke, Wynston
Denney, Zeb Hand, Jake Harrod, Brystol Phillips, Caden Raines, Benjamin Ranger and Nathan Urquhart. The scholarships cover tuition,
textbooks and other fees for lineman training
programs in Georgia, and each student is
paired with a lineman mentor at Carroll EMC.
