also works with Disney and Marvel and has vehicles
featured on popular TV shows filmed in Georgia,
such as " The Walking Dead, " " Stranger Things " and
" Atlanta. "
And no matter what city's police department
is featured in a film, Cinema Vehicles is able to
replicate law enforcement vehicles from the 1940s
onward, Cerven says, adding that for " The Divergent
Series: Allegiant " (2016) the team even built a
spaceship.
" There's a lot more current TV shows and
movies we're working on, but to protect the storylines
and our clients, we don't discuss them, " he says.
The expansion of Cinema Vehicles into Georgia
was a natural progression, Cerven says.
" Georgia has become a great place to shoot a
movie, and its production infrastructure is becoming
second to none. There's a lot of participation with
corporate industries building studios and stages-
everything that we need for filming. The other bonus
is that, depending on what direction you go, we can
be on the beach or on the ski slope in four hours, so
there are lots of location options. "

Connecting the dots
Another Atlanta-area picture-car company, Y'allywood Film Cars,
is run by Beth Aylward, an actor living in Conyers, and Stacy Frasure of
Hiram. Since opening the picture-car brokerage in 2019, the women have
built their clientele to about 300 car owners with almost 700 vehicles.
" Rather than maintain a fleet, we reach out to car clubs and individual
owners and act as a go-between for them to get their cars into the movie
industry, " Frasure says. " We connect the dots so that locals can safely rent
out their cars and make money on their hobby. "
According to Frasure, the going rate to rent a picture car is $250 to
$500 per day, but it could be more for a specialty or hard-to-find vehicle.
" I have one guy who has a 1954 Cadillac ambulance that rents out at
$2,500 a day, " she says. " [The price] is subject to the needs of the production
and what we're able to find. "
What cars are in short supply?
" It's getting harder to find a 1980s station wagon, " Aylward says. " And
Gremlins aren't that easy to come by. People didn't like them-thought
they were ugly-and now they're coveted, whereas Mustangs are a dime a
dozen. "
Last summer, cars from Y'allywood, including Aylward's personal 1969
Plymouth Valiant, appeared in " Respect " (2021), the biographical drama
about the late singer Aretha Franklin.
" Each person drove their own car as an extra, " Aylward says. " And we
have lots more good stuff coming, but the movies aren't out yet, so we can't
talk about it. "
Like Aylward, Frasure owns several picture cars, including the one she
drives daily, a 1964 Plymouth Valiant.
" These older cars were built to last, " she says. " I enjoy the fact that my
car is almost 60 years old and fires right up. And it's fun to see your stuff in
the movies. "
