Art Supplies and Frames, where artists would test paint on a
canvas wall. Thus the idea for the Splatter Studio was born.
The Splatter Studio launched in 2020 inside Ponce City
Market in Atlanta. In January 2022 the Splatter Studio moved
to the Virginia-Highland neighborhood, and an additional
location opened in Sandy Springs in April.
The studio hosts special events at its Sandy Springs
location. Recent events have included adults-only painting
sessions with a live DJ and themed nights.
" We did a '90s music night where we played '90s music
videos, " Rees says.
Looking ahead, the Splatter Studio will offer an acrylic
pouring class this month. The company also plans to open a
location in Athens by this spring.

Artist Jerrell Steed, who creates under the pseudonym
Picasso Blac, opened Picasso's Splat Room in July 2021.
" I've always loved abstract art. I've always loved Jackson
Pollock, " Steed says. " I'm hoping that people who have never
had the ability to tap into their creative side could possibly tap
into that at the Splat Room. "
Originally from Charleston, S.C., Steed attended Charleston
County School of the Arts in North Charleston. Prior to opening
Picasso's Splat Room, Steed spent his career as a graphic designer,
private art instructor and commercial interior designer.
People flock to Picasso's Splat Room to release stress in a
fun and supportive environment. Visitors include corporate
teams, couples, families and groups of friends.
Picasso's Splat Room is also a cultural partner with Art
Pharmacy, an initiative of the Atlanta-based arts nonprofit
organization Sewn. Art Pharmacy coordinates with care
providers and cultural partners to offer the therapeutic
benefits of creative experiences to metro Atlanta residents
who are dealing with issues such as depression and anxiety.
Visitors to Picasso's Splat Room use their hour-long session
to put on shoe covers and ponchos, watch a demonstration of
paint-splatter techniques and then start painting. Steed creates
an upbeat atmosphere with soca music, a rhythmic Caribbean
music genre.
Picasso's Splat Room also offers guests the added excitement
of painting with water guns and water balloons filled with
paint, darts and a pottery wheel for spinning the canvas.
" It's a way of just taking a beautiful mess and making it a
masterpiece, " Steed says.
Steed says splatter painting is for everyone, regardless of
age or artistic ability.
" I guarantee you [that] once you start, it's addictive and you
don't want to stop, " he says.

techniques for applying paint, including a pottery wheel
that spins the canvas while paint is applied.
At Picasso's Splat Room in Morrow, guests enjoy upbeat
Caribbean music while painting their canvases using
brushes as well as paint-filled water guns and balloons.
