Great Race
heads through
Georgia
acing teams driving more than
100 classic, antique and vintage
automobiles will be passing
through Georgia this month as part of the
2023 Hemmings Motor News Great Race,
a timed, controlled-speed, endurance
rally with more than $158,000 up for
grabs for the winners.
Beginning June 24 in St. Augustine,
Fla., teams will drive north to Georgia,
with an overnight stop in Tifton before
heading to 15 cities in Alabama,
Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas,
Missouri, Kansas and Colorado. The rally
ends July 2 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Each stop along the route is free to
the public, and spectators can get an
up-close look at the cars.
In conjunction with the June 24 stop,
Tifton Tourism is hosting its Rock the
Block event from 4 to 10 p.m. with food
trucks, free live music and kids' activities.
The first Great Race took place in
1983 and was named after the 1965 movie
starring Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon,
Natalie Wood and Peter Falk.
