EMC linemen take top
spots in state rodeo
lectric co-op line crews took the top spots in the 2023
Georgia Lineman's Rodeo, held May 6 at the Camp
John Hope FFA-FCCLA Center in Fort Valley.
Teams from Jackson Electric Membership Corp. (EMC)
in Jefferson took first (Jeff Sutton, Kaleb Chapman and
Jeremy Adams) and second place (Devin Triplett, Austin
Gragg and Justin Cash) overall among the three-man
journeyman teams, and a team from Clarkesville-based
Habersham EMC finished third (Tucker Dyer, Dillon
Welborn and Robert Morris). Teams from EMCs claimed
nine of the top 10 spots.
Among apprentices, the top three finishers were
Morgan Garrison of Cobb EMC in Marietta, Walt Palmer
from Jackson EMC and Austin Lewis
from Jackson EMC.
For more than 25 years, the
Georgia Lineman's Rodeo has given
linemen an opportunity to showcase
their unique skills and talent in front
of peers, friends and family members.
This year, linemen competed
from Canoochee EMC in Reidsville,
Carroll EMC in Carrollton, Cobb
EMC, Flint Energies in Reynolds,
GreyStone Power Corp. in Hiram,
Habersham EMC, Jackson EMC and
Snapping Shoals EMC in Covington.

Putting down roots
Midway-based Coastal Electric
Cooperative employees and students from
McIntosh County Academy in Darien planted
nine 100-gallon, container-grown live oak
trees on April 18 in an effort to restore the
historic Oglethorpe Square in Darien. Coastal
Electric collaborated with Georgia Public
Service Commissioner Tim Echols, McIntosh
County Academy Superintendent James Pulos
and a team of volunteers under the direction
of certified arborist Jerry Holcomb. The plan is
eventually to add a fountain and park benches
near the trees.
