football championships

Tops in '23: Tri-County Electric Membership Corp.
(EMC) in Gray was named the 2023 Business of
the Year by the Eatonton-Putnam Chamber of
Commerce at its annual awards dinner on Nov. 6.
Food sources: North Georgia EMC in Dalton
provided a $3,000 grant to support the new
Nourish North Georgia initiative, which is
operated by the Rabbit Valley Farmers Market in
Ringgold. The market buys fresh meat and
produce from local farmers and donates the
items to food banks and other distribution
resources. The funds came from the EMC's
Operation Round Up program, in which members
opt to round their monthly bills to the nearest
dollar and the difference goes into a fund that
supports charitable causes in the community.
As the top football teams from
high schools throughout the state
battled it out during the Georgia
High School Association (GHSA)
State Football Championships
Dec. 11-13 at Mercedes-Benz
Stadium in Atlanta, fans cheered
them on with foam fi ngers
distributed by volunteers from
the state's electric membership
cooperatives (EMCs). The EMC
volunteers, who also hosted hospitality suites at the event, represented Carroll EMC (based in
Carrollton), Central Georgia EMC (Jackson), Flint Energies (Reynolds), Georgia EMC (Tucker),
Jackson EMC (Jeff erson), Jeff erson Energy Cooperative (Wrens), Middle Georgia EMC (Vienna),
Mitchell EMC (Camilla), Ocmulgee EMC (Eastman), Oglethorpe Power (Tucker), Southern Rivers
Energy (Barnesville), Sumter EMC (Americus) and Walton EMC (Monroe). Georgia's EMCs are
the offi cial energy provider of the GHSA.

Shoals EMC raised nearly
$6,500 to buy Christmas
gifts for children served by
Alcovy CASA, a Covingtonbased
nonprofit that works
to improve the lives of
children in foster care in
Newton and Walton
counties. Snapping
Shoals EMC also donated
hundreds of toys to Toys
for Tots, which makes the
holidays brighter for
underprivileged children.
A good sport: Employees at Carroll EMC in
Carrollton held an auction in October to raise
funds for Partners Advancing Student Success
(PASS), a Carrollton-based nonprofit that aims
to support students and increase high school
graduation rates. As an incentive for employees,
who raised more than $2,900 for the cause,
CEO Tim Martin agreed to have a pie pan full of
whipped cream smeared onto his face.
Book it: The Reidsville-based Canoochee EMC
Foundation donated $2,500 to support children's
activities and programs at the Long County
Public Library in Ludowici. Below, Joe Sikes of
