We know that place!
February's Picture this? contest in Georgia Magazine
featured a photo of two large Pink Panther statues located
outside of Flack's Flooring and Rugs on Ga. 400 in
Cumming. Hundreds of readers recognized the location,
including Chris Elliot of Cleveland.
Before Flack's Flooring took over the building in 2012,
it was home to Cherokee Arcade and Music, which
opened in 1928.
" My wife, Freda, and I used to go to the arcade to play
games, " Elliot says. " We found a coin-operated game
called the Tapper [while antique shopping] in
Alabama that had to be fixed. Cherokee Arcade and
Music was on top of it and had [the game] back up and
running. It was a great place to have fun! "
Elliot says this is the couple's first time entering the

in downtown Atlanta.
Picture this? contest, but they have enjoyed reading Georgia Magazine for many
years now as members of Clarkesville-based Habersham Electric Membership Corp.
" We like the Calendar of Events, because we like to find out what is going on in
Georgia, " he says. " We also like Around Georgia, because we find out new things
about the history of Georgia, and Georgia Cooks. Freda loves to cook. "

Thank you for writing the article titled " EMC employees honored for lifesaving

Readers contacted us!
I was very excited to see us (and our Georgia Cooks story)
featured on the February cover. [See " From Metter with love, "
page 30; bit.ly/metter224.] Calls and pictures started coming in
early, and by the time it hit the mailboxes, someone recognized
us and sent a picture of the magazine cover to my daughter.
One friend called to say she was about to sit on her couch
to read and recognized me and my sister and gave me a call.
Another lady who grew up in Twin City reached out and
wanted to know if we knew her grandfather. We talked for 30 minutes.
Another young lady from Miami, Fla., had a brother who was honored for the
Good Samaritan award, and she told me their story and invited us to a fish fry they
have every year. One gentleman from Metter saw the magazine and took a picture
with his grandson holding the magazine up to say congratulations. Another person
made the Brunswick stew recipe and said it was delicious.
These are all people who saw the article before we did, and these are just a few of
the responses I got. Thanks for all of the publicity and fun we're having with this great
article. Good job!

Spring is upon us, and many of us
welcome the warmer weather and new
adventures!
Ready for an up-close look at some
interesting and unusual wild animals?
Come along as we visit Georgia's
drive-through safari parks. Turn to
" No passport required, " beginning on
page 24, for a glimpse of fun safari
experiences that are just a short
drive away.
If airplanes fascinate you, Georgia's
air shows are sure to please. Both
educational and entertaining, these
events feature aerobatic stunts as well as
opportunities to learn more about the
featured planes (and pilots). Turn to
" Let your spirits soar at Georgia's air
shows " on page 30 for details.
Have a favorite band that you'd love
to see in concert, but the group is not
touring? There's a good chance a tribute
band has formed to pay homage to the
original musical artists.
In " Let's rock! " beginning on page 21,
meet several Georgia musicians who have
formed tribute bands to celebrate good
music. (This month's calendar features
concerts by several touring tribute bands,
too; see page 10.)
This month we also celebrate co-op
linemen and the work they do in all kinds
of conditions to keep our lights on. Did
you know that electric membership
cooperative (EMC) lineworkers maintain
the largest power-distribution network in
the state, with 196,921 miles of line?
Check out this month's Cooperative
Concerns on page 28 to learn some fast
facts about lineworkers and the work they
do. And be sure to see the art created by
youngsters in North Georgia EMC's
territory in appreciation of linemen on
page 14.
