Canoochee EMC shares inspiring, uplifting-even scary-anecdotes amid storm recovery
B
eing without power can cause
people to get cranky and start
complaining to their electric
providers. When Tropical Storm Debby
lumbered through South Georgia on
Aug. 5 and caused widespread damage,
Canoochee Electric Membership Corp.
(EMC) in Reidsville helped keep cool
heads and inspire a bit more patience
by using social media to illustrate the
challenges that the crews were facing.
" We realized years ago that
members need to be able to see
storm damage to appreciate how
bad things are, " said Joe Sikes,
communications specialist at
Canoochee EMC. " [Showing]
actual linework in difficult
situations is even better, which also
has the added bonus of giving our
line workers the credit they deserve. "

Denmark working to restore power says it all about the tough job of a lineman.
Above right: Linemen who encountered this rattlesnake while making repairs
after the storm noted that it appeared to have eaten recently. They steered
clear, even so.
Local companies such as The Proper Library & Coff ee in Glennville donated
food and beverages for Canoochee EMC employees working around-theclock
to restore power.

Adamson, who gave them a lift to the area.
