pizzelles, or Italian waffl e cookies. The recipe
makes a lot, but the cookies are so easy to
eat! " says Carlin Breinig of Alpharetta. " I like
vanilla fl avor, but the more traditional is anise.
My iron makes two at a time and is
electric. My grandma had to heat her
iron over the gas burner and make
one at a time-and we could
eat them very quickly! "

maybe your family reunion wouldn't be the same
without your sister's famous dessert.
This month we share some recipes from past
issues of Georgia Magazine that might trigger a
happy memory or take you back in time.
PIZZELLES
Carlin Breinig, Alpharetta (December 2010)
12 large eggs
3 cups sugar
1 pound butter, melted
2 tablespoons vanilla
1 shot whiskey
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
6 cups flour
In a very large bowl, mix all ingredients together until

BUTTERSCOTCH TREATS
Martha Everett, Abbeville (published December 1984)
1 (6-ounce) package butterscotch morsels
1 large can chow mein noodles
1 cup salted peanuts
1 cup pecans
Melt butterscotch morsels in the top of a double boiler.
Do not stir. Add remaining ingredients and stir until wellcoated.
Drop by tablespoon onto waxed paper and cool.
smooth and well-mixed. Heat the pizzelle iron, ladle in batter
and bake until golden brown. Makes about 120 cookies.
PINEAPPLE CASSEROLE
Ginny Norwood, Marietta (December 1992)
1 (20-ounce) can crushed or chunk
pineapple
1/2 cup sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup melted margarine
1/2 cup crushed Ritz cracker crumbs
Drain pineapple, reserving
3 tablespoons of juice. Combine sugar and flour; stir in reserved
juice. Add cheese and pineapple, mixing well. Spoon mixture
into a greased 1-quart casserole dish. In a separate bowl,
combine melted margarine and cracker crumbs, stirring well.
Sprinkle over pineapple mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for
25 minutes or until crumbs are lightly browned.
