Gwinnett teen named
America's Top Young Scientist
S
irish Subash, a ninth grader at the Gwinnett School of Mathematics,
Science, and Technology in Lawrenceville, won the 2024 3M Young
Scientist Challenge with PestiSCAND, an AI-powered, handheld
pesticide detector. Using spectrophotometry and machine learning, the
device identifies pesticide residues on produce with more than 85 percent
accuracy. Subash earned $25,000 and the title of America's Top Young
Scientist. Finalists, mentored by 3M scientists, competed in interactive
science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) challenges at 3M
headquarters in St. Paul, Minn. For more information, visit
